Should I bother with MGS V?

You're clearly having trouble with this, so I'll try explaining this again: If not for the doppelganger thing being shoehorned into the story, Big Boss would have taken on Skull Face himself, not Venom. There was nothing preventing him from doing so except that he was ham-handedly written out of the story. It changed nothing because Venom acts exactly like Big Boss.

It's like if instead of Solid Snake in MGS2, we got a character named Hard Serpent voiced by David Hayter who speaks and acts exactly like Solid Snake, has the same backstory, etc. Then at the end, whoa it's not really Solid Snake! It's pointless. It's shoehorned. It adds nothing to the story and you have to make logical leaps to justify it. There is no reason for it and Big Boss' existence had to be swept under the rug for it to work.

I'm not having trouble with it, but just funny seeing you backpedal, and create more mental gymnastics as we continue this. And MGS2 did something like V where we don't play as a Snake but someone who was meant to be a mental clone of him. It's not shorehorned into the story because it was set up from the start. I get that you want to use that buzzword because I use it on Eli (who is shoehorned in) but the story of V was written this way with that plot in mind from the start. Is it well executioned? No because ofcourse Kojima always had that problem in is writing from the start.

Maybe if we had gotten Venom's perspective it would have actually mattered, but he ends up being a silent blank slate so he gets no character development and his mental anguish isn't explored. It's absolutely pointless and is only there so there can be a predictable "ha, gotcha!" moment at the end.

I personally wanteed to see Venom react to his new "role" but him being a blank slate is supposed to allow us players to fill in our own blanks like how silent protagonists do. It's a part of the "gotcha" thing but again it was Kojima's pretentious way of saying "the story is in your hands" or something.

There is no reason for it to have the name of Solid Snake's infiltration op on it otherwise.

Yeah, it's there for us players on a meta level, but it's there for Venom to detail the plans to capture Snake in the coming years.

You keep saying he's hallucinating things from the future

Actually the only thing (not plural) is the OH logo, but it's not like he is actually seeing it, it's right behind him and it's for us. Do you really think logos change irl?

In the game he only ever hallucinated things from his past, like Paz.

Yes and the hallucinations he is seeing of himself in the mirror is from his past. He's actually noticing them. He does not see nor acknowledge to OH one because it's just for us players to see.

There's no proof for one or the other except for the tape, which can't exist in 1984.

The tape can exist in 1984 lol what? Why couldn't it?

That MSX2 also wasn't made until 1986

Ehhh I'm seeing 1985, so any where from a few months to a year later for it being possible.

You seem to be arbitrarily deciding that certain things are hallucinations, but other things aren't, because those things support your ideas, and the things that have to absolutely be hallucinations are things that would otherwise contradict them.

... you're not picking up what I'm putting down I guess. All I said that were hallucinations were his different forms in the mirror, and the OH logo specifically for us. Don't know how you got lost.

He did,

SF is the main villain of the story of V. In terms of it's story he didn't come out of nowhere because he was shoehorned or something. I get you're trying to make a point here but it's not working because I mean yeah sure every villain came out of nowhere for their specific stories, but you're trying to say the main villain was shoehorned into a story... although he was there in the story from the very start.

and they had to retcon MGS3 for him to fit. His backstory is vague and full of holes and he harbours a grudge against Big Boss for no reason, because he's arguably the worst written villain in the MGS franchise.

Like how Liquid and Solidus were reconnected in for MGS 1&2? Cuz the whole gene thing wasn't in the original story. You seem to give the rest of the games passes for their plotholes and retcons... or just conveniently forgetting to fit your argument.

because he's arguably the worst written villain in the MGS franchise.

ehhh he's definitely not the worst but that's subjective. However he is objectively underused.

That happened in KotF, the thing that you keep saying was unnecessary.

Never did I say it was non canon, because it is due to evidence in the timeline. It's background lore like how MGS has a TON of already, but we don't have to see it for this particular story because it wasn't what the whole story was about.

Without KotF, there is a gaping hole in the story, like the one in your brain.

That's you over-exaggerating right there, because it's not a gaping hole. Also I get that you get angry when challenged but jeez really? You're gonna insult someone over a fictional story?

I'm not going to explain story structure to you any more.

But you never did, you just said what you think without backing up. You're literally the one saying the main villain of a game is shoehorned in while some kid who came in on a smaller subplot is better for the story because he was already introduced in another unrelated story to this one that comes years later in lore. Please don't act like you know about writing.

Go back to high school, you are not going by the actual definitions of terms.

Niice another petty insult for... not following your definition of something. Like you literally tried to use length as the defining term for a word rather than functionality. Google is a thing if you need help with it.

You're calling chapter 2 an epilogue because it's a meme and you just want to parrot what you heard on the internet.

lolololol you're definatley not self-aware nor know what a meme is huh? Again I hate to do a "no U" but you make it so easy. Like literally you've been regurgitating the biggest meme in Metal Gear history.

Fuck off.

A little word of advice. If you get this angry over a strangers words about a fictional story in a video game then maybe you shouldn't be doing this kind of thing.
