Should I use clipless pedals or cage pedals ?

Clipping in helps with power transfer regardless of if you are racing or not because you get power throughout the entire 360 degrees. You can pull up during your stroke on flats. It especially is noticeable when standing up while you are climbing. Ultimately, this allows you to go faster while putting in the same amount of effort. Also, you use more of your leg muscles during the stroke which gives a better workout and allows you to focus on different parts of your pedal stroke if certain muscles are tired.

I would recommend getting pedals where you have clips on one side and a platform on the other. Shimano makes a bunch of them for both road and trail. That way when your going for a serious ride you can get that extra and when your just fucking around with friends or running errands you can wear normal shoes. Is it the best of both worlds? No. But it is a great middle ground and allows flexibilit
