Should I Cut My Hair Off?

Dear Hair Enthusiast, My hair is slowly falling out and I don't know what to do! I have a myriad of health problems, and either stress or one of my medications is causing "diffuse hair loss". When I run my fingers through my hair, 50 or more strands come out in my hand. I feel like I am always covered in spiderwebs because loose hairs tangle around my body. It is gross. I have always had very long, very thick hair, and I estimate that I have only lost about 1/3 of it so far. Will cutting it short help the remaining hairs stay attached to my head? At this rate, without intervention, the fall out will become noticeable within a few weeks. Should I stop being chicken sh** and chop it short? Would less fall out if the strands weighed less? If you are on "Team Chop It, Chicken!" do you have any suggestions for cuts? If you are on "Team Remain Rapunzel", are there vitamins I can take or tried-and-true oils I can rub into my scalp, or shampoos I can use to help me keep my long locks? Geeze, at this point, do you know any hair-power magic spells I can cast? I am desperate! Please help!

P.S. Sorry, the only current image that I have accurately showing my hair also has me sporting a silly drawn on mustache. Stache or no stache, I figured it would be helpful if you could see what we're working with! Thanks for your help.
