Should Feminists be more outraged by a violent rape than by sexism in games?

Honestly? I think it's something that I would believe is I were inherently cynical and paranoid about feminism. I mean it's certainly possible that that's the case, but you'd have to first make so many negative assumptions about feminism to make it work that I'd say it speaks far more to the authors bias then the truth. It seems more like propaganda that will always promote the idea the "the enemy" has, some nefarious and twisted motive for whatever they've done, and it's all part of some giant conspiracy. That's what that seems like to me.

Feminists aren't going to touch it because it's a singular incident that doesn't really touch or illuminate a broader issue. It has nothing to do with patriarchy, it has nothing to do with White Patriarchs (I mean really? So they didn't go after Cosby or Ray Rice?) or a patriarchal oppression (I'm sure they could easily fit something like this into their narrative if they wished), and considering many of their positions on slut-shaming, victim blaming, and how a woman's sexual history shouldn't be a factor in rape I don't think it's because she's an adult star. No movement has to make sure every one of their victims is some media show. But to think that that means that they aren't helping her or that by not putting her in the spotlight that they're committing a grave injustice against her is just plain dumb. It's doubly dumb when you include Sarkeesian into the whole thing, as if she had anything to do with the rape or is in any way responsible for what happened.

And to be clear, I'd say that for anyone, so it's not about Sarkeesian. But her being pissed off against Sarkeesian and Gamergate is completely independent and separate from her friends rape and it's super low to link the two things together. I mean we could do this for a pretty much anything we wanted too. Let's say a prominent MRA focused almost exclusively on how men were portrayed in the media as either bumbling idiots or sacrificial fodder. Let's say that a different man was then raped. Then let's say that the friend of the guy's raped got all pissed off and made a video admonishing the media guy for not paying attention to his friend. Would we in any reasonable sense think that was right? In order to think that was right you'd have to concoct a scenario which presents a narrative in which MRAs are all scheming PR dudes sifting through news stories and marking certain ones with big Xs. So no, I don't think they have a point.
