Should I fire my employee for being good at his job??...

I'm in a kinda similar situation. My case is very strange and pretty rare and unheard of.

Check it out.

I'm a subcontractor. I signed on to help this local construction company as their "in house/team finisher". Well, dude has kept me busy af for the past three years. I mean, really busy. 6-7 days a week 8-12 hrs a day busy. That's awesome. It's what I was promised. It's why I signed. Well, we're finishing up this gargantuan house and the finish work (my work) is almost done.

Well, the homeowner is one of the strangest people I've ever met. This dude absolutely insists that someone be out here. One the job. Anyone. So I get picked as I of the lucky few that is currently getting paid to do very little around this almost finished house.

Ok. No big deal, I say. Weird but no big deal. I'll do it but we're doing hourly since there's nothing to bid on. Well, now the contractor has been hinting that he'd like me to go ahead and start helping with the tile work. Sure, if I can get paid what a tile guy does I'd be glad to help. Oh no, he wants to keep my hourly rate the same and just have me laying tile?

Nah, hard pass.

So, here's where I'm at. I took a bit of a pay cut to help dude out and be here to please this crazy old wealthy homeowner. The pay is good but it's boring as fuck most days. I'm basically a groundskeeper that does light paint work.

I'm currently looking for another job.
