Don't use incidental behaviors as bellwethers in a relationship. He might or might not be interested in you romantically, but whether or not he ever initiates contact (even something as minor as texting) won't reflect that.

If you ask him out (not really possible right now obviously) and thus create a relationship as people dating, you could then bring up to him that you worry that because you always initiate contact that he is not into you, but if all you are doing is texting then bringing this up would likely cause a red flag that screams "needy!"

Text him when you feel like it and focus on other goals and interests. It is important to never make a relationship your central focus - even when it grows into something bigger than just someone cute with whom you text chat, but especially so when you have not even started a relationship.
