Should I place in lower ranks on purpose to play ranked better?

At around 2200-2300, one thing that’s laughably effective is picking Reaper and walking around to the backside of the enemy team and ripping through their supports. At that SR people have abysmal game sense and aren’t paying attention to when their healers are being attacked. You can make a huge impact just sneaking up on people, doing it over and over without the enemy team adapting, and it’ll help you climb.

Thing is, you rank up some and suddenly that stops being an “I win” button. You might pull it off once or twice, but even though people in mid to high plat aren’t amazing, they’re not totally brain dead: they’re often capable of shutting that down. And suddenly you’re stuck because the one thing you did to climb isn’t outright winning you games anymore. You probably lose a few games as a result, and have to figure out new ways to play against people at the higher SR.

A game like this, what you can (generally) get away with and what you can depend on your team to do changes pretty severely as you rank up. So it’s better to learn the ropes at higher SRs.
