Should published papers be optimized for printing, for viewing on a computer via interactive pdf, or should there be a balance struck between the two?

For context regarding the "Vent" tag : I'm currently trying to submit to a conference with a 2 page limit, and my major professor has a tendency to print literally everything.

For instance, he was a reviewer for a conference some weeks ago, and printed upwards of 100 submissions, marked them all out with ink, then scanned the marked up versions.

On the other hand, I'm 29, had a personal computer in my room since I was 5, and have never owned a printer in my life, and never plan to. The only other time I've had to print anything in my life before starting this PhD was for tax and immigration purposes... So I think my professor and I stand on opposite ends of the spectrum, and I want validation and people to tell me I'm right :)

But in all seriousness, I do want to know if I'm doing something wrong here, or if I'm just extremist on the issue.
