Yes and no. In Assam and so on, it is a bigger part of the issue, but for the rest of the country it’s about millions of Indian people becoming stateless or thrown into detainment camps (which are being built all over the country right now in anticipation of what’s to come) because they are “lower class citizens,” but more importantly, they are protesting because the government is trying to create a Hindu state that excludes religions they consider to be “infidels.” It goes against the core values of India being a secular nation.
