Shreddit's General Metal Discussion

I was in the car with my mother and In The End by Linkin Park came on, and made me rather nostalgic, so I felt like talking about how I got into metal, you all can choose to do whatever you want after that.

I was in eighth grade when In The End by Linkin Park came on, and my mom listened to it for about a minute, a solid 45 seconds longer than usual, and then she changed it. I liked it, so I did whatever a rebellious, edgy, teenager does, I listened to some br00tal Linkin Park. Being the edge-lord that I was, I proclaimed to everyone that I listened to Heavy Metal. In 9th grade, I was bragging about it to my church's youth leader, who asked me if I listened to Skillet. I said yes, when I meant no, and then listened to Skillet on repeat for the next few months, since nothing screams epic like mediocre Christian hard-rock. In tenth grade, the exact same thing happened, except it was with my dad and Slipknot. At this point, I listened only to Nu Metal standards, Slipknot, LP, Disturbed, and maybe Metallica. Last year, my junior year/ end of sophomore, I decided I'd be cool and listen to a really underground group named Megadeth. That was the band that got me hooked on heavy metal. Since then, I went into the realms of Dying Fetus and Cannibal Corpse for the shock value, though I discovered that I really only like that stuff in small doses. I had a small, embarrassing, mainstream rap phase, then fled to catching up with classics, Metallica, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Priest, etc. More recently I've been venturing into prog territory, which I really discovered a love for, along with OSDM, with Death being my favorite band. If you've made it to here, you deserve a cookie, but I'm broke, sorry.
