Let me begin by saying I haven't played video games in a while. Last thing I played was Mario Kart on a DS Lite.
I'm in community college, and my best friend (from highschool) transferred out a year ago. I'm stuck here until 2017, because my brain is slower after I was hit by a car going 40-50mph, and suffered from a cerebral hemorrhage and a subdural hematoma. I had not seen him since last spring semester, and he invites me over in January. He tells me he got the new Smash, and a few other games. I also see a figurine of Statue and Link, so I naturally ask about them, he tells me they're Amiibos. So he proceeds to show me what they are, and I'm amazed!! I knew a little of nfc technology from Skylanders, and Disney Infinity games. So we play a few games.
I've got the bug now, and still want to play more smash. The last time I played, was on a childhood friend's gamecube, and I sucked terribly. I just want to get better. My friend also mentioned he's trying to practice villager, and add him to the list of character he can main (Toon Link, Sonic, Kirby). He would have liked the Villager amiibo, but $70 on ebay was a huge deterrent for him. He told me if I liked Metaknight (I played Nightmare in Dreamland), I could probably main Marth or Lucina. I want a Marth Amiibo now, and I saw the Holy Trinity often sold together. So I won all three in an auction on ebay, I have it shipped to my best-friend's home.
The amiibos are from Berlin, Germany and have a while to get to his place and my birthday comes up in early February. As we're out for my birthday lunch, I tell him a package is coming from Amiami as a cover (we both watch anime and have different anime collections). When he opens the package a few days later, he blew his shit!
He's training his Villager, and since he has a lighter semester I can come over Fridays. I get better at Lucina and train Marth Amiibo against her instead. I'm also a bit obsessed and want all the Fire Emblem characters. I managed to get Ike from Amazon.uk thanks to a poster here on /r/amiibo. And pre-ordered Lucina, Robin, and a Charizard from Amazon.co.jp. With that said, I buying a New Nintendo 3DS XL and Smash Bros 3DS next week, so I can use the amiibos at my own home. I also pre-ordered Codename S.T.E.A.M. Below msrp, I'm looking for Fire Emblem Awakening, and hopefully i can get my hands on Xenoblade Chronicles 3DS because the open world is beautiful. I'd like to add Shulk to my Swordsman amiibo collection, and use him for Xenoblade as well.
TL;DR Friend shows me amiibos for his Wii U, and I'm amazed! I like Smash enough to start buying a few even if I don't own either system. I bought a couple but leave them at my friend's house, since I'm system-less. Now I'm planning to get a NN3DS to play Smash 3ds, and codename S.T.E.A.M. Hopefully more games to follow, especially Xenoblade Chronicles. Spring Break is next week, so I can shop around!
