Numbers are not intuitive for people. Especially large numbers since we are evolved, or created depending on your belief, to deal in small, real numbers. You might be a great intuitive thinker, but math is more of a learned skill devoid of humanity. And you really don't need that great of math skill to get by in life anyway as long as you can use your intuition.

500 out of 7400 is same as 5 out of 74. Suppose there are 3 candidates, Trump, Hilary, and Gary. And there are 74 voters in total. Trump wins the election with 37 votes out of 74. Hilary loses with 31 votes and Gary only gets 5 votes. Trump has 50% (37 out of 74), Hilary has 43% (31 out of 74) and Gary has 7% (5 out of 74).
