Kirkwood is the rich suburbs, highly republican. It's a great school district choice. That being said, if you want to live in a progressive, liberal stronghold move to Tower Grove Heights (or the general area around Tower Grove South / Tower Grove Park). It's the most walkable part of the city, lots of cafes, a farmer's market in the adjacent park every Saturday (also hosts PRIDE and other events), lots of young families, an international food/grocery store, tons of cute and diverse restaurants/shops along South Grand. It's the most amazing part of the city to live, but I unfortunately don't know enough about the school district to comment on that aspect.
