Silver Tower Kairic Acolyte (Painting tutorial in description)

fuck it. I don't care.

You're right, a LOT of people that post on this subreddit are, generally speaking, pretty bad at painting. but that's not important... they're trying, they're learning, they're improving, and they're participating in the community. And I have written up paragraphs upon paragraphs for people to help improve their skills, what to work on, specific techniques, color theory. I'm glad to help people improve the same way others helped me improve many years ago. Everyone is at a different skill level and MANY people here are just starting. I'm not being a dick by saying that most posts on here are on the lower end of the skill spectrum, it's just fact. And by posting and asking for C&C, they're going to get better.

But for someone like me, it's nice to see models posted sometimes that even I can appreciate. And just because a model is nice, just because someone didn't ask for C&C, doesn't mean any can't be offered. Once you get to a certain painting skill level, tutorials don't teach you anything. 95% of the people who you interact with can't teach you anything. at that point you only really learn from better painters or even other people at your skill level with different perspectives and tricks. I never ask for C&C when I post anything because I know most people are going to offer advice that I've already learned, used, and moved beyond.

When it comes to improving painting skill, learning about all the things you're doing wrong is the only way to improve. I recently spent 2 weekends in a painting seminar with one of the best painters in canada, and I found out that I had been highlighting wrong for the past 5 years. I was screwing up my composition. I was botching my light sources. I was completely fucking up contrast. And I would have never known if I wasn't told that everything I was doing wrong was.... wrong. The very next week I painted easily the best looking model I have ever done to date, and every since one I've done since has gotten better.

I'm not saying grey primer sucks to be a dick to him. I'm doing it to help him improve so the community as a whole can be better painters.
