Simple solutions to a complex problem

We can't even get people to wear a mask for a quick trip to the grocery store without throwing a fit and making vague, silly, false claims about businesses requiring guests to wear a mask as being discriminatory and HIPAA something or the other. Most of those screaming the loudest, or that have YouTube channels Karensplaining about "Living Swell" probably never looked at the Civil Rights Act nor could tell you what HIPAA stands for and guards against. There are people posting on the ochealth Facebook page openly threatening violence against others who ask how to report a business that's not conforming to health orders for being a snitch. As a society we've degraded to the level of the threat of an after school beat down.

Sadly I think the only thing that will work is if our government, from the very top all the way down to the partisan hacks making up our BOS, steps in to both model AND enforce what many of our fellow citizens are unwilling to do. Thomas Paine was right when he said that government is an "evil … rendered necessary by the inability of moral virtue to govern the world."
