A simple truth

Why does the 2nd Amendment exist? I'll give you a hint - it has to do with the fact that the American colonies didn't have a standing federal military to speak of when the Constitution was written. The 2nd Amendment was included in the Bill of Rights to ensure that the American population would be sufficiently armed to provide the necessary weaponry for a citizens militia. It's literally right there in the text of the 2nd Amendment:

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

That purpose is irrelevant in 2021, and it's been irrelevant for a long time now. The American military doesn't need an armed citizenry to call upon when we go to war with foreign nations. We have the largest and most advanced standing military in the world. The 2nd Amendment is a historical relic that's due to be repealed.
