Single ladies by choice, what made you give up on being in a relationship?

There is a space between "actively looking" and "permanent spinster who's determined to be single forever because (insert gender) are awful".

Most of us fall into that space.

I removed myself from dating sites and apps, and I'm not going out of my way to go to singles events or whatever. I'm working on my life: getting fit, getting out of debt, decorating my house, and growing my friend group. I'm also trying to figure out what I actually want in a relationship. My specifications previously have been "adult human with a job and who showers", but I also know that I want more than that... I'm just not sure what.

The freedom is nice. It's nice to be able to do anything without checking in with someone. Want to go to a party? Just dress up and go. Want to go across the country? Just pack up and go. Want to stay up til 2am playing video games? Accept you'll be tired at work and do it. Want to decorate your house in retro steampunk style with only stressed furniture and garishly bright colors? Effing do it.

My parents bother me a lot about finding a man (emphasis on man. They've been concerned about me possibly being a lesbian). They seem to be concerned that I'll end up alone, but if I do, it's not the end of the world. I'll be the well-traveled, spinster aunt who occasionally shows up, brings tons of cool, weird gifts, tell you some weird math facts, and then disappears.
