Single parents in medicine: How do you balance your career with your family?

It's medicine as opposed to nursing, and if nursing isn't for you, NP won't be either.

I think I would enjoy the role of an NP in patient care much more than the role of an RN. Ie, rather cleaning poop off a patient’s bum, I’d like to be figuring out why they’re incontinent and how to fix it. I guess that’s why I think I’d like working as a physician more than as a nurse, but I do still like nursing. I enjoy taking care of my patients 1-on-1 and spending time forming relationships with them. I just also want to be a leader in their diagnostics and treatment. And, I want to have enough free time to drop off and pick up my kids from school everyday. It seems like an impossible situation for me right now.
