Single Strokes to Double Strokes

This is an example of me demonstrating a single stroke roll to double stroke roll combination. The end goal is to take the two rudiments and make one seamless roll. How will you know if it is seamless? – The Sound.

The “sound” concept is a powerful one that I started implementing into my drumming at an early age, and still use to this very day. Because if it sounds good… It is good. I have heard about drummers who are taught to use a mirror to gauge their playing. Through my studies and application, I’ve found that using your eyes and ears yield the best results. Rely on your ear first and then confirm that what you're hearing is technically sound by utilizing a mirror to examine technique (Overall motions/Even stick height etc.) Let both be your guide in your training sessions and practice sessions. By doing so, you will develop solid technique, but more importantly, an invaluable tool when performing in the studios and on the stages of the world. In music, one of the best compliments you can receive is that you have “a good ear.”
