Sir Patrick Stewart: I’m applying for US citizenship to ‘fight and oppose’ the Trump administration

Being a visa waiver programme eligible nation is a good thing, it allows nationals under set circumstances to visit the USA without a visa, hence waiving the visa. It's for those nations the USA has close connections with, mainly European countries, Aus,NZ and I think south Korea and maybe Japan.

It's a privilege to be on that list, those seven countries were never ever part of that list. Obama's change didn't even apply to nationals from those countries.

What Obama said was that because the vwp allowed travel with less checks, any vwp country national who had visited those seven countries or had dual nationality were no longer eligible to travel via the vwp and had to apply for a visa like every other country in the world.

So, as a UK person, if I had visited Iraq, I now had to apply for a visa for the extra vetting before I could visit the USA.

Those seven nations were not ever on the vwp list of nations and are about the last nations in earth who would ever be on the list.

Obama's change literally had zero to do with the people from those seven countries, they always needed a visa and were throughly checked....
