Sister Of 73-Year-Old Man Beaten To Death By Teens Speaks Out: 'How Can You Let Us Suffer Like This?'

This is an extreme example of what we, as staff, dealt with. We dealt with patrons wanting us to do their job searches for them, to write applications for everything for them, for us call their bank for them, for us to talk to a lawyer for them, for us to watch their kids for them, for us to protect them from their sister for them. The city gave us Narcan and we had to deal with people ODing on the front steps for them.

Meanwhile, we also had to present the library as a welcoming place for kids, families, the elderly, the physically and mentally disabled, and, ya know, for your regular person who just wanted to come in and find a book to read or ask a question. We were also harangued by manangers and admins if we told a person no and they complained.

I had no problem dealing with this and defending people and pointing out the admin harassment, but eventually it was even too much for me since I was only being paid 36k/yr.
