Six shot, three of whom are dead after the shooting on Longfellow St NW tonight.

Well, i’ve always held a positive view of MPD vis a vis other forces. I’ve seen community policing at work in your officers’ interactions with the homeless and other marginalized groups.

Based on the limited footage i saw, Your riot squads (dunno the official term) were far better at holding a disciplined line than, for example, Santa Clara County police were; the latter looked frighteningly amateurish and brutish despite working in one of the wealthiest jurisdictions in the country and getting ~$250k a year in total compensation!

From my layman’s perspective, it seems each department has its own discrete virtues and vices. The forces that shape officer behavior and civilian interactions seem to differ widely from one jurisdiction to the next. You would have a far more granular perspective than I would, of course.

I don’t know why you guys let me roll so many stop signs in Georgetown right in front of you during my errant teens and early 20s, however…
