Sketch Sorting Sunday (October 8, 2022) (Brendan Gleeson/Willow)

The comparison to celebrities have affairs all the time is so annoying. This was not a typical celebrity marriage where they’re together for like 3 years total and both away on projects for the majority of it. Ned and Ariel had been together for 13 years, long before either of them were famous. And their entire brand was having a healthy, loving relationship. He made his entire identity revolve around his family, his catch phrase was “my wife” unironically. They even hosted their own podcast together about healthy relationships. He destroyed not only his own life, but his wife’s life, and nearly destroyed the business he and his friends poured years of their soul in to create.

People are interested in this because of the severity of how much he fucked up his life and everyone around him so effortlessly. Also because of the sharp contrast of Ned’s on-screen persona to his real life actions. These guys arent big A list celebrities, that’s the point. They became successful because they’re regular, relatable guys.

It’s much more shocking that this level of scandal would happen in their group than pretty much anywhere else. That’s where the comedy in the sketch should have come from, Ned’s crazy reckless behavior. Not the guy’s response video, who were actually very professional despite the intense feelings they had at the time.
