This sounds similar to sleep paralysis experiences I've had which often lead to astral projection. I typically hear loud electric cutting sounds, an all encompassing buzzing, and/or explosions. But if I get stuck and am unable to exit my body it results in sleep paralysis and that panic and fear you described sets in. I've sometimes felt as if I've been pulled around by "evil entities" during these times as well if I get stuck in sleep paralysis. But I find if I stay calm and let it be and accept it instead of resisting or giving into fear it results in amazing out of body experiences.

With time I was able to skip the sleep paralysis stage altogether, but I think it was necessary for me in order to overcome certain fears.
