The Slow Death of Competition: Competitiveness of Europe's "Big 5" Leagues, 2005-2019

I think that's not correct. People will always find a way of saying their league is competitive, not because they're more invested in it, but because they are competitive in regions outside of the title race. Ligue 1, Bundesliga and Serie A viewers are well aware of the fact, that the title race often is a foregone conclusion with teams like Juve, Paris and Bayern having a financial monopoly. The league itself is still competitive, just not when it comes to the title. The Bundesliga has had some of the most exciting top-4 races in the past 4 years, serie A always has good top 4 races too. Imagine thinking a league being competitive is only decided by an exciting title race. It's about so much more than that, but a City Fan, with all due respect, would never know that. A good ol' relegation battle between 5 shit sides on the last matchday can be just as exciting as a 3 horse title race on the last matchday. Each league respectively is competitive, even if the title is a foregone conclusion by mid march.
