The Slow Death of Hollywood - A former Senate policy aide explains how consolidation is destorying the entertainment industry

There are some interesting directors around right now and as they get some big budget successes under their belt, I wonder if they can do a "1 for the studio, 1 for me" type thing.

I think/hope Jon Favreau is on this track with all those studio projects and then he did Chef and now he's apparently nailed Lion King. Maybe he'll do a more personal film like Chef after that.

Chloe Zhang is another I have hope for her after watching The Rider (amazing!) and Songs My Brother Taught Me (very good overall and an excellent debut); her next movie is a step up about Bass Reeves, the first black deputy marshall in the 1800s. Then she gets to do Eternals. She's said she wants to go back and do another movie in the Dakotas and so maybe that comes after Eternals.

Taika Waititi is a fantastic talent who has a remarkable vision/voice in film. Eagle and Shark, Boy, Wilderpeople, and then Ragnarok. Now he's working on that JoJo Rabbit movie and Mandalorian. He's got a great sense for making "fun" big budget and adding just enough weirdness to make it stand out. It seems like he's going to keep doing his own thing
