Slowly realizing I am not a teacher at heart.

What are your interests? What kind of job can you see yourself doing?

In many ways, I can relate to what you're talking about.

Two years of teaching in Korea and I felt very homesick and desperately bored. I branched out / networked, made Korean and Western friends. Explored a lot of Jeju. It was great to see the natural beauty of Jeju, but I was going stir crazy from my job.

Here's what helped to make things a bit less difficult:
Your students are probably as enthusiastic about learning grammar as you are teaching it. Seek to find the students points of interest. This will encourage them to reach new levels with their learning. This can lead to some fun conversations and make the class way more alive.

My first year of teaching was strictly "by the book". Not surprisingly, the students found it quite dull. As a result, I felt like there was a lack of interaction. Classes were never interesting. By my second year, I tried to engage the students whenever possible. If there was time in the class, I would give them a free writing assignments (based on a theme or prompt, for example: "If you could make a Pokemon, what would it be? Why?" ). Then they would present their story to the class. I found that some of the students had very lively imaginations. It was quite amusing.

Faking enthusiasm is difficult AND disingenuous. Your staff might not pick up on it, but your students will. Additionally, fake enthusiasm will only carry a dull topic so far. Find points of interest! See what excites the students and encourage that enthusiasm.

TEFL is both easy yet difficult. Best of luck.
