Small Towns With Dark Secrets

The log cabins were actually pretty cool i will admit. It sucked though sometimes especially in the winter, and our wood burning stove would often fill the cabin with thick smoke, which i think contributed to me getting sore throat a few times.

Building them not so much coolness because of the environment, deep south really hot or really cold or raining out, that it was treated as a form of punishment as grueling manual labor and was honestly really unsafe. We were all basically underfed, being allowed one cold can of beans a day for lunch and one can of sourkrout in a bowl for dinner sometimes for weeks. We basically would have one “counselor” who was just some 20 year old untrained kid, and a group of “problem” kids a lot that were forced off their meds and replaced with prayer. I actually remember two times a kid attacked staff with a saw but were taken down both times. We had to cut down trees with hand saws and axes and carry dead trees to the site then built the whole thing. Theyd make us sit in the sun for hours and just saw log after log with hand saws and man it sucked lol. The cabins did look awesome though and i think if most people saw them they would be very impressed, especially that a group of young teenagers built them.

One story involving the cabins we built was pretty wild. The owner of the place was basically a southern fanatical christian and basically like a cult leader. Anyway, one day he came back to the camp and he had with him this old hobo guy. He introduced the man to us all, and then told us that he just met this man a hour or two ago while he was hiking or driving on a mountain somewhere. He said the hobo man was a christian and God told him he was a great man or something soooo... he will be staying at the camp and will live in the cabin down in the woods with the boys!

Seriously what the hell?! He met a stranger who was a homeless person and just immediately let him come live in our cabin secluded down in the woods with one counselor watching 10-20 kids.

Eventually the man started acting strangely. At first he just seemed to know a lot about the bible, and religion. Then we noticed at least i know us students did, that he was burying things around the property in random places in the woods, we never found out what. One night when we were getting ready to head down to the cabins when we saw a bunch of smoke in the distance. Staff went to check it out and apparently the guy burned down one of the big cabins, carved weird symbols all over the place and on trees and there was broken glass all over.

The owner and staff had a private meeting with him and told us he did it and was possessed by demons or something. They said they prayed over him and then made him leave, and no cops were ever called or anything. The details are a little fuzzy cus its been so long but that blew my mind.
