Is it smart to buy a townhouse?

I have a townhouse in Seattle. My only issues I wish I considered before buying are: 1) paying to get gutters cleaned, roof cleaned, and exterior painted because the townhouse is too tall for me to do it myself. If the one you're looking at has a roof deck you won't have to worry about this 2) most townhouses in seattle dont have HOAs. Mine doesn't either. when it came time to paint my exterior, the townhouse I shared a wall with didn't have money to paint theirs. So I had mine painted and they left theirs as is which looks a little weird. As nice as I try to make the outside of mine look, the curb appeal is diminished by the connected neighbor's townhouse that has exterior paint wearing off and siding that is rotting from not being stained since they were built. Something to consider as the townhouses age.
