Smash spectators who used to play competitively/semi-competitively, what made you stop trying to play competitively?

I used to go to a couple tournaments every month. Now I've gone to 2 in the past 8 months or so. I mainly stopped because of Cloud and Bayo.

Moreso Cloud because everyone plays him now and he destroys my main. Those 2 coming out and being so prominent in the meta just made me feel like my character was no longer viable, and they're really aggravating to play against to the point where it just doesn't feel fair or fun. My results took a big dip since their introduction. I used to go 5-2, 4-2 or 3-2 pretty much every single tourney for a year+. Pretty sure I never even one time did worse than 2-2. I never lost more sets than I won.

Since they came out I'm super happy if I go 2-2. I'd usually go 1-2 and sometimes I go 0-2. I don't feel it's me getting passed up in skill, it's just all the DLC I'm losing to.

I could switch to a better character but I don't have a passion for playing any of the top tiers, and since I play competitively for fun it isn't worth it to me to switch characters.

Other factors include me getting older, and tournies not being held quite as much in my area. Still though, it's mainly the DLC that crushed my interest in the game. If we got a balance patch toning those 2 down though I'd definitely get serious about the game again.

I'll still probably hit up a tourney every once in a while just for social reasons to see friends. But overall I'm not nearly as serious about the game anymore or motivated to get better.
