Clearly the concept of rhetorical questions aren't for you. Basically, people can ask a question simply to emphasize a point, the question should be so obvious, or perhaps even answered in the point that was made, maybe it's just meant to make a person reflect inwards. But the question doesn't actually warrant an answer, that's the point.

Oh, and how exactly do you know for absolute certain they're 'gonna make it' or not? You don't, you never do, therefore unless they've actually caught it, you're fair game. Besides, deeper or not, it's not their wave until they stand-up, therefore it's fair game and the entire concept of 'snowballing' actually unravels because it's undermined by another point in etiquette, so take your kook ass off to a point break if you don't have the skill to generate speed and get back into the unbroken section
