Is SOCI 1001 Easy to take?

I TA'd for it multiple times. It's a great class and can be really easy to some depending in whether the topics interest you and of writing is your strong suit, but it really also depends in the prof. George Pollard is a bit of a nut and I found him to be pretty erratic. In one of the upper year courses I took with him he had a guest lecturer/buddy of his come in who proceeded to (I kid you not) take a teddy bear out of his bag and the bear would whisper to the guest lecturer and he would pass on what the teddy bear said to us. That was the whole 3-hour lecture and Prof Pollard seemed 100% cool with this. No reason was given and everyone clearly felt really awkward the whole time.

Most large first year classes like this aren't as interesting as the rest of their discipline because they give a really broad overview rather than go in depth on the more interesting topics. I suggest you 1) try to avoid Prof Pollard if you can and take the class with Prof Flynn or Davidson instead if available 2) check out a past syllabus or two for this course since they're easily found online and see if it looks interesting. It's not for everyone as our conspiracy -sub-frequenting friend illustrated here in another comment, so do a bit of investigation and see if it piques your personal interest.
