Social Justice

Yea I apologize about the assumption. That was not my intention. I have noticed that in my sangha that many people are very active politically and there are quite a bit of social workers.

I’m also a social worker and that’s what I was implying when I was talking about social justice. I don’t really want to get political here, but I feel like what you said really put the case in point in what I was saying. I feel like there is policies that can cause a lot of suffering for people and there are ones that can help people for the better.

I think me just working on myself isn’t going to help solve the existential crisis our planet and many species are facing right now. Wouldn’t the Buddhist thing be to help protect all living things on earth?

It seems to me that you don’t like politics. That’s a valid feeling, especially when it makes you feel powerless. What would you have said to the African Americans that were experiencing oppression during the civil rights movement? Disengage with politics and work on yourself? I feel like some things we need to work on that are bigger than ourselves.
