Society has a problem in assuming male is default

I run in some every different social circles. One of them is extremely progressive, diverse, and cognizant. On the opposite end, is a hockey locker room.

The language in the first group (of over 20 people in a professional setting) is so thoughtful. I love it. But it's like having your mind opened by taking the blue pill (or the red one, I can't remember). Once you've experienced it, you see the faults in everything else.

I'm always a little bit surprised to see the language used in very queer/feminist spaces be so male-centric. So many posts include the phrase "you guys" when addressing a group of people (redditors).

Obviously I've heard all the reaction responses when this is pointed out. "it's just how I was raised." "Guys is gender-neutral." Etc.

But that in itself is the problem. I challenge all of you to stop using "guys" when addressing a group of people. It's hard. I challenge you to notice all the posts and comments that address even woman-focused or GSM-focused subreddits as "guys."
