Ah, finally a word for it! Misophonia, too. My ENTP beau seems to think I'm insane if I ever comment on or try to explain or quantify how unbearable certain sounds are to me, like when I downloaded a decibel meter when I worked in a confined space with a woman whose average speaking volume turned out to be on par decibelwise with that of a gas powered lawn mower. It wasnt just the volume, though. I can go to concerts, crank music at high volumes, use power tools, etc. and be just fine but certain other types of sound practically throw me into fight or flight mode like I'm physically under attack from more than just sound waves. Few people will empathize when a woman says she doesn't like children but the shreaking and wailing sounds children tend to make are particularly heinous and I can't understand how anyone can live with it.
