Why do software engineers think they are IT specialists??

I am so damn sick of hearing about The Trolley Problem...

I'm certain that most people who talk about it really don't care about coming up with some kind of solution for it, they just like talking about it. Talking about it is the end in itself, not the solution.

I guess it makes them feel smart. So much of the awful conversation I am subjected to by non-experts on the topic of ML is clearly just some kind of intellectual masturbation on their behalf. They love to come up with extremely abstract, philosophical arguments that are just completely unhelpful.

"What if, like, a toaster had, like, AI in it and then became, like, sentient? Would it have, like, human rights???"

Oh do shut the fuck up. Maybe - maybe - in a century when that kind if - if - that level of AI becomes a reality, then that kind of conversation may - may - be worth having. But for now, there are far more important things to discuss about ML, but because they're mostly dry, technical topics then they don't care.
