Solar companies may exit Ontario for Alberta after Doug Ford kills rebate program

I don’t think you understand how the economics work. All industries benefit from varying degrees and forms of subsidy. Some exist on the supply side, others on the demand side. Some alleviate costs, others seek to elevate the number of orders. This is not unusual nor undesirable.

Things like solar panels aren’t about high profit margins. Material costs are higher than most areas, in order to encourage the growth of that industry here like has been the case elsewhere, it requires effort to make their purchase more accessible to individuals. These are homeowners benefiting from subsidies that in turn promote job growth in an industry. It’s among the clearest forms of job creation requiring less direct intervention than other levers.
