I feel like I should share my similar experience. I released an update that was originally a flop but ended up being highly rated. I had lynch mob of users out to get me so much to the point where I was considering suicide (no longer the case but at the time it seemed sensible) people were acting as if I changed the whole purpose of the app. I was being called a scam artist, incompetent and other various names. I literally had one person say that "I did not have their explicit permission to update the app" since when did I need anyone's permission to update my app on the App Store? Everything is much better now but I had 300 one star reviews overnight because that's what made them feel good. Luckily I also had a lot of loyal users who came to help me out during this time. My reviews were 50/50 1 star and 5 star. Nothing in between. It was an utter breakdown of the legitimacy of the review system. I literally had people emailing me complaining about the update yet they have never purchased my app. It almost made me want to quit everything. So you are not alone
