Some (more) questions about Islam

I'll try to find some relevant verses. I'm using a translation by Muhammad Asad, but will link to Quran.com too.

3:134 "..and hold in check their anger, and pardon their fellow-men..." 3:132-134

16:126-127 "Hence, If you have to respond to an attack [in argument], respond only to the extent of the attack leveled against you; but to bear yourselves with patience is indeed far better for those who are patient in adversity. Endure, then, with patience - always remembering that it is none but God who gives thee the strength to endure adversity - and do not grieve over them, and neither be distressed by the false arguments which they devise. 16:126-127

38:17 "[But] bear thou with patience whatever they may say,.." 28:16-17 the verse is about people mockingly calling to receive their punishment, perhaps not the most relevant, but relevant nonetheless IMHO

73:9-11 "The Sustainer of the east and the west [is He]: there is no deity save Him: hence, ascribe to him alone the power to determine thy fate, and endure the patience whatever people may say [against thee (Muhammad)], and avoid them with a comely/gracious avoidance. And leave Me alone [to deal] with those who enjoy the blessings of life [without any thought of God] - and bear thou with them for a little while:" 73:1-13 For me, this ones hits home the strongest, on how to deal with those who insult Muhammad (PBUH).

I think the above verses are enough to show that killing people for insulting Muhammad (PBUH) is a transgression, and the correct approach (where Dawah fails) is to let them enjoy their God-given freedom, and hope they repent and are guided before their time comes. We will not be held accountable for their insults, so it doesn't make sense to desperately try to silence them with death - specially not when the Quran generally calls for patience against adversity, and prohibits responding with greater force, and tries to persuade followers to observe patience instead of retaliation.
