It's still an allegory that's extremely silly. If an alien species that could travel between cosmos and have planet destructive weapons and plasma armors come here you think giving a guerilla only sticks and rocks and make them swing around like Tarzan will be enough to defeat that alien army?

But at least the Ewoks were integrated in the plot. That's the difference between shoving commercial toys yet still giving them a purpose and outright shoving commercial toys in a movie without any sort of other purpose than "oh cutties" like Rian Johnson's last Jedi.
