Some things people have said to me after finding out I have ADHD and I am medicated for it - Pill Shaming, Sexism and overall ignorance!

Thank you for sharing this. As a lady [22] with ADHD and parents that say stuff like: “you don’t need medication all your life, do you?” “You’re stronger than that, you don’t NEED medication, you’re perfect the way you are” “you’re just being dramatic” “stop being so lazy” “grow up”.....I empathize with you. I’m so glad you shared this because all the shit my parents and brother say to me was making me think, “Maybe you really don’t have adhd or need medicine”. And that’s not right!! It’s not fair. Obviously exercise and developing coping mechanisms through therapy have helped but before I went on medication, I became severely depressed and my social anxiety stopped me from doing anything but self medicating....I’ve learned over time that the best thing is to be as open and honest as I possibly can to hope that people will eventually understand. Much love to you OP<3 I am hopeful that the stigma against adhd, especially in women, will crash and burn bc of people like you!
