some tips from the man himself ONE

College finals aren't really a deadline, course work, yeah, but I mean, you get loads of time to do course work and lots of excuses to extend the deadline. But if you are studying for exams... staying up the night before may be more detrimental to you then just getting a good night's sleep and waking up early enough to study. You'll only forget most of what you studied the night before if you sleep on it.

And as you said it is usually your fault for not studying or working before the deadline, and fixing one life altering mistake by deciding to make yourself sleep deprived before a test is not really a fix. Heck it could get you killed, have to drive to finals? Well now you have a significant chance of crashing. Have to get to a train? Well people have walked and fallen in front of trains and buses due to just being too tired. Plus the large number of medical issues it can cause. Heck ever wonder why so many mangaka are so ill all the time, or their work starts to get worse, messy, poorly written? Because they are sleep deprived.

If it isn't your fault for not studying, like you get hit by a series of illnesses and tragedies, speak to the college, try to get a gap year out, and see what they can do for you. If they don't do anything, then I try to study when you can but remember to try and sleep well, good rest is as important for getting good results as studying is.

My mother almost killed herself due to studying at night for college while working and taking care of the family in the day, and she still suffers years later as a result. You can't take the test if you are in hospital, a degree will do nothing for you if you are 6ft under. Or maybe you'll find you'd have preferred the 20 extra years of life and not to have debilitating health problems, to having a degree.

Sleep well, eat well, study hard, and live a good life, it is the turtle hermit way and it is good advice, none of those things should be cut out if you can help it.
