And as far as publication is concerned, the situation literally the exact opposite right now, as anyone who is even remotely familiar with the industry knows. Publishers are actively looking to publish anyone BUT straight cis white men, and when they have an author who isn't the market the absolute shit out of their "diverse" identity. People buy books solely because the author is a "queer woman of colour", or whatever. I guarantee you no one has EVER said "I'm gonna buy this book because it was written by a straight white man!!".
