I just can't see why players who clearly value mobility would accept arrangements that actively punish it. Or why they'd care about rewarding teams for building through the draft. The owners would need a serious carrot.

I get all those points on infrastructure but even in the 11 lockout the players (was it Amare?) proposed their own league. Imo it's even more viable now with the scope to market it via social media. A barnstorming league could be stood up really easily. And beyond the Lakers, Celtics and perhaps 5 others the NBA franchises themselves aren't exactly irreplaceable imo.
