Someone actually talked to me?? Help!

English isn't my first language either.

Hey, I'm really glad that someone wants to be a friend with you. This might be your chance, so if you want a new friend, don't let it slip.

It's completely rational to think that they might be trying to set you up, or embarrass you. You're not used to being approached and these thoughts can easily come to you. Heck, similar thing used to happen to me personally in high school. Sometimes, unfortunately, it turned out the " alleged friend" didn't really want to be friends with me. His intentions was to use me for his own popularity, and sometimes just using me to do his stuff.

But, have you considered that they might also have some form of anxiety or social anxiety? It's possible that they, like you, suffer when it comes to social interactions. It's possible that they were able to gather the courage and ask you to be friends with them. Why would they ask you, instead of someone who's more social? Because they know you're not gonna be a douche. After you, you have similar problems and you can sympathize/understand each other.

Had similar experiences in high school. I used to search for people who are like me and tried to make friends with them. It was hard for me, but I gathered all my courage and made the approach. When it worked, It made me feel great, because not only did I make a new friend, but they also made a new one.

So just be cautious, and don't give your absolute trust until you're certain of their intentions.
