Something I just realized: when I think about the Phantom Menace, I think it’s a bad movie. When I think about my feelings about it, I realize I love it.

What would have been a better concept? I think it’s a bold idea, it works, and just adds to Anakin’s character as a powerful Force-user.

Yeah, but nowhere in the OT was even implied that Anakin is particularly powerful Force-user. There aren't even any implications of this "prophecy". He was just an ordinary Jedi knight who was seduced by the dark side. No Dragon Ball power-levels needed.

There are so many more elements in Phantom Menace that don’t receive the credit they deserve: The use of both practical and ground breaking digital effects, sound mixing & design (the pod-race scene is a massive achievement in sound design. Also, updated lightsaber sound effects), John Williams’ score, which has so many hidden character nods, etc. I can go into more detail if you want.

Strange, because those things seem to receive praise every time people discuss what prequels did right.

Let’s also remember that prior to Phantom Menace, no Star Wars movie, save perhaps Return of the Jedi, was ever anywhere near people’s expectations for what a Star Wars movie should be.

What is that supposed to mean?
