Sometimes it feels like we’re living in an alternate reality

I live in the US and the test positivity rate in my very large city is 10%. My parents got sick before Christmas... and we're like "We don't go anywhere, it's just a cold." And they planned to have Christmas with us like normal. I'm a health care worker, I get tested every couple of weeks for my own sanity. I know my parents don't go anywhere. But I got pissed about this. Forced them to go get tested - working in health care, I know the rates of cold and flu are VERY low right now and if someone is ill, it is more likely than not COVID. Sure enough, positive for COVID. They declined to mention to me that my dad went to the dentist about 5 days before he got sick. "But we don't go anywhere!" You went to the fucking dentist in a pandemic for cosmetic work. He got it at the dentist.

My mom was still denying it was COVID even with the positive test in her hand.

Yes, they are fine now. Just pissed me off.
