Sonia Sotomayor Reassures Liberals As Conservative Decisions Loom. When asked about the collapse in trust in the court, the justice said she still believes "the arc of history bends toward justice."

but Italy is no longer fascist and Germany is a thriving democracy.

This is just cherry picking. There are countless examples of societies devolving into theocracy or fascism and just saying that way forever.

What about countries that have maintained feudal monarchy, dictatorship, or false democracy for hundreds to thousands of years straight?

Not to mention, Germany murdered millions of people. In order to stop them it required hundreds of thousands of deaths and the advent of nukes. Without the US and Russia, they would have won and installed fascist rule over all of Europe.

Speaking of which, in Russia, Stalin was just as bad as Hitler to his own people and the rule of the KGB still hasn't truly ended. Now they're invading Ukraine - where exactly is the arc of justice for the century of this injustice happening? And their neighbor to the South - how is China doing in the past hundred years? Where's the pendulum, the justice, the resistance? Hong Kong lost.

I'm sorry, but the real world isn't a fairy tale. The good guy doesn't always win. And with increasingly centralized, advanced power (both soft and hard) it is becoming increasingly impossible for the common people to recover lost power from their governments.
