And there is regional and generational variation, yes. None of them is the “correct” term. There is no one right term for everybody who’s not straight (given even what straight is is pretty hazy), and nor is there an inventory of terms which describes every category of person who is not “straight”.

What I object to is telling people they’re not using the mandated language, when they’re using language these communities use to describe themselves.
