Sort of New Player

Elemental druid has essentially two builds, and they're used at different parts of the game. To start with, if you're going to level up all by yourself with a druid, you'll want to start with Firestorm until you can use Fissure. Molten Boulder is okay before you get Fissure, but DO NOT get tempted into using volcano. It's bad. Fissure is really REALLY strong. You'll be able to kill almost anything really easily unless it's immune to fire, in which case you use Molten Boulder. In Nightmare difficulty, you'll probably want to transition from a fire druid to a wind druid. The key skills for wind druids are Hurricane, Cyclone Armor, Tornado, and Twister. Hurricane makes a large storm around you that does respectable cold damage to enemies and slows them, and its duration is increased by points in Cyclone Armor; up to 50 seconds. Cyclone Armor gives you a buffer that completely absorbs elemental damage from enemies until it runs out of health. Tornado makes a semi-randomly moving tornado that deals big physical damage. Twister should get points in it last, as it's almost entirely just for increasing Tornado's damage. As for items, there's not really much you can do to hunt specific items unless you are at the very end of the game.
